How to use the click counter
- Click or tap the big button to add one. On a computer you can also press Space, Enter, + or ↑.
- Made a mistake? Press −1, or the − or ↓ key, to take one off.
- Give the counter a name, such as "Laps" or "Visitors", so you know what you're counting.
- Press Add counter to keep several tallies side by side, and click a counter's name to switch to it.
- To start again, press Reset to zero twice. The second press is there so you don't lose a count by accident.
Your counts are kept in this browser, so they're still there if you close the page or restart your computer.
What people use a tally counter for
- Counting people coming into a room, shop or event.
- Sport and fitness: laps of a track or pool, skipping, push-ups or sets.
- Crafts: rows and stitches in knitting and crochet.
- Nature and school projects: birds, cars passing a window or traffic surveys, with one counter for each kind.
- Games and scores: keep points for two teams with two counters.
Click counter or tally counter?
It's the same thing. A tally counter (or clicker) is the small metal hand counter with a button and a ring; a click counter is the online version. This one also lets you count down, rename counters and keep several at once, which a hand clicker can't do. Each press adds exactly one, and holding a key down doesn't keep counting, so a stuck key can't spoil your tally.
Tips
- On a phone, keep the page open and tap anywhere on the big button. It's large on purpose so you can count without looking.
- If you're counting fast, use the keyboard: the spacebar is quickest.
- Want to know how fast you can click instead? Try the CPS test or the spacebar clicker.
